Espresso Recipes
Here you will find recipes for espresso based drinks like the cappuccino and Cafe latte. Although espresso can be enjoyed all by itself, many people today like many of the espresso based drinks that are offered at their local cafe. These drinks can be prepared at home and the following recipes can get you started.
Single Espresso
1-1.5 ounces of espresso served straight up.
Double Espresso (Dopio Espresso)
2-2.5 ounces of espresso served straight up.
Espresso Con Panna
A shot of espresso topped with whipped cream.
Cafe Macchiato
A shot of espresso topped with a dollop of frothed milk.
Cafe Creme
A single espresso combined with 1 ounce of heavy cream.
Cappuccino
Made with equal parts (2.5 ounces) of espresso, steamed milk, and frothed milk. Put a double espresso in the cup, add 2.5 ounces steamed milk and top with 2.5 ounces of frothed milk.
Cafe Breva
A cafe breva is made the same way as a cappuccino, but using half & half instead of milk. This should have a very rich creamy flavor.
Cafe Latte
Made with espresso and steamed milk. Ratio of milk to coffee should be approximately 3:1. A dollop of frothed milk can also be added on top. You can also add flavorings such as cinnamon, nutmeg, hazelnut, chocolate, or your favorite flavor of syrup.
Cafe Mocha
A cafe mocha is simply a cafe latte with chocolate powder or chocolate syrup added. White chocolate can also be used. Whipped cream is often added on top.
Cafe Crema
Cafe crema is a single shot of espresso made pulling 6-8 ounces of water through the coffee instead of only 1-1.5 ounces of water. A good drink to serve someone who likes coffee, but wants a better and bolder taste.
Americano (Cafe Americano)
A single espresso with 6-8 ounces of hot water added. The extra water is added in the cup not pulled through the coffee. The result is still a bit stronger than drip coffee.
Hammerhead
A single espresso added to a regular cup of coffee. This will add an extra kick to your cup of Joe. For a real charge try a double espresso.
Ristretto ("The Little One")
A very strong, restricted shot of espresso. Made with only 0.75 ounces of water but still taking the 20-25 seconds to brew. This is usually achieved by grinding the coffee finer. Served straight up and only for the brave at heart!
This is certainly not an exhausted list of espresso based drinks. These are just some of the more common ones you might find served in a cafe. Remember its all about your taste buds. You can adjust any one of these recipes to suite your taste or even add some extra ingredients that you might like. Experiment, have fun and enjoy!
